Enhancing community resilience to counter serious and organized crime
In partnership with TAG International, the Corioli Institute is contributing to a project designed to address the root causes of youth involvement in serious and organized crime (SOC) in Guayaquil, Ecuador. This initiative targets socio-economic drivers of crime, such as unemployment, limited educational opportunities, and corruption, with the aim of equipping local authorities and communities with the tools to develop sustainable, evidence-based interventions.
The project's core objective is to enhance the capacity of communities and local governments to jointly counter SOC threats. Through a formative evaluation, the project assesses early-stage interventions to ensure they are contextually tailored, gender-sensitive, and aligned with best practices. The evaluation focuses on understanding the efficacy of these initiatives and identifying barriers, opportunities for improvement, and strategies for sustainable outcomes. This collaborative effort will inform future strategies and policymaking, fostering community resilience and safer environments in Guayaquil's most vulnerable areas: Monte Sinaí, Isla Trinitaria, and Bastion Popular.
