(RE)INTEGRATION AND HUMAN SECURITY
Across multiple regions affected by war, criminal violence, and institutional fragility, we partnered with academic institutions, government stakeholders, practitioners, and local communities to generate actionable knowledge and field-informed responses to complex security and social challenges.
HOW WE WORK

APPLIED RESEARCH
We collect and analyze life histories from formerly armed actors and conflict-affected populations to understand meaningful reintegration and social cohesion in post-conflict contexts. Through in-depth interviews and participatory research, we examine how individuals navigate the transition from conflict to civilian life, focusing on their lived experiences rather than predetermined metrics.

POLICY ADVISORY
We translate field evidence into policy that institutions can act on. Through applied research, stakeholder engagement, policy development, training, and educational design, our work supports efforts to better understand and address the long-term consequences of war, organized violence, displacement, and institutional fragility.

CONVENING & DIALOGUE
We steward transnational communities of practice on violence, security, and peace, building on networks to deepen dialogue on trust, institutional legitimacy, and social cohesion in
violence-affected contexts. We design and lead workshops, dialogues, and convenings that bridge research and practice, bringing together veterans, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.

COMBAT-TO-COMMERCE (C2C)™
Market-based pathways from violence to stability.
Corioli Institute's Combat-to-Commerce (C2C)™ is a flagship model for reintegration, resilience and secure livelihoods in settings affected by war, organized violence and institutional fragility.
The model is built on the idea that security, development and market participation must move together. C2C was developed as a public-private-community architecture that connects formerly armed actors, receiving communities, local institutions, private sector partners and policy actors around practical pathways into licit markets.
In 2025, C2C received an Honorable Mention for the Geneva Center for Peace and Security Innovation Prize, and the model is now being adapted for emerging work in Ukraine, Sudan, Somalia, Mexico, and Yemen.
PROJECTS
2023 - Applied Research
Through interviews and surveys with 36 veterans, we examine the the challenges faced by ex-Afghan National Army Special Operations Command (ANASOC) soldiers who resettled in the U.S. after the withdrawal from Afghanistan. The research reveals leadership dynamics, evacuation disparities, family reunification struggles, language barriers, and psychosocial stress.

2023 - C2C
We piloted our C2C model in Bocana Agua Caliente, Caquetá, Colombia through a hydroponic agriculture initiative with formerly armed FARC combatants. The community-managed project has grown from 137 to 165 participants, sustains a commercial supply partnership with a regional grocery chain, and generates approximately $1,800 in monthly revenue.
